How the shop works

One photograph. Six clues. The longer you look, the clearer it gets — and the less it’s worth.

  1. 1
    One roll a day

Every morning at midnight (London time) a new print goes up on the drying line: one hidden subject — a person, a place, a thing or an event. You get one scored order a day. Wander off and come back; the same roll is waiting where you left it.

  2. 2
    Six clues, cryptic to giveaway

Clue one is oblique and teasing. Clue 6 all but names it. Press "Develop the next clue" whenever you want another — but every clue you develop sharpens the print AND drops what a right answer is worth.

  3. 3
    Guess whenever you like

Type whatever the picture makes you think of and hit Name it. We're not fussy about capitals, punctuation, a missing 'The', or a slipped finger — but we do want the right subject.

  4. 4
    A wrong guess costs information

Get it wrong and the shop stamps REJECTED across the till roll and develops the next stage early. There's no limit on guesses; there are only six stages. Run past the last one and we'll just tell you what it was.

  5. 5
    The price gun

Solve on clue one and it's worth 100. After that: 80, 60, 40, 20, 10. Nothing at all if the print runs out first. There's no clock anywhere in this shop — take your coffee with it.

  6. 6
    Collect your order

When you're done, the shop turns around: today's orders board (which clue everyone else needed), where you came in the queue, your streak, and a spoiler-free grid to share. The grid never names the subject — that's the point.

House rules

  • One scored order a day. Coming back resumes the same roll — it never deals you a second one.
  • Untimed. Nothing in here is racing you.
  • The Back Catalogue keeps every past roll playable, unranked and streak-neutral.
  • Fridays get the enlargement — the most playful subject of the week.
